Breaking changes 4
Python 3.10 is no longer tested or supported, though it can still be installed.
The declared minimum MkDocs version is now 1.4, aligning package metadata with the MkDocs APIs the plugin requires.
Plugin warnings now count toward MkDocs' warning counter, so strict builds can fail on warnings they previously ignored.
Setting strict: false in the plugin config downgrades these messages to keep the build passing.
Performance 3
When this option is off, the plugin no longer looks up creation commits, roughly halving build time on large sites.
The initial build is faster when using
--dirty.Git tag and site-wide revision commit lookups are cached instead of recomputed for every page, reducing build time on larger sites.
Behavior and default changes 2
Plugin messages now use MkDocs' logger and are formatted and coloured like other build output.
The warning about incomplete Git history now fires when the repository is outside the directory where mkdocs is run, including repositories inside docs/ and temporary plugin checkouts.
Tooling 1
The package now ships py.typed so mypy, pyright, and ty can see the plugin's annotations.
Fixes and other changes 7
Generated pages get one stable timestamp per build, so both dates match and strict builds no longer warn about them.
While the command runs, it now picks up commits, including amended commits, and changes to the ignored commits file.
Text surrounding date directives is preserved, and unrecognised directives such as %Q are left alone instead of being reinterpreted.
When parallel Git history reading fails, the error now explains what setting enable_parallel_processing to false does.
The creation-date commit hash metadata field now contains the expected value for theme overrides.
The creation-date tag metadata field now contains the expected value for theme overrides.
An invalid type value now produces a MkDocs config error listing valid values instead of a bare AssertionError.
